HRDS INDIA Urges Federal Intervention Over Security Concerns in Kerala

Calls Out Extremist Threats, Drug Trafficking, and Constitutional Breaches

New Delhi, 27th October 2024

HRDS INDIA, a non-profit NGO for social justice and human rights, has filed a formal complaint with the Connaught Place Police Station, New Delhi, urging federal action over security and law enforcement issues in Kerala. Submitted by Founder-Secretary Mr. Aji Krishnan, the complaint highlights critical concerns, including extremist threats, narcotics trafficking, and alleged constitutional violations under Kerala’s current administration.

The complaint references an interview by Kerala Chief Minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan in The Hindu (dated 30th September 2024), where he acknowledged rising extremist threats, particularly in Malappuram. HRDS INDIA warns that these issues threaten public safety and stability.

Key Concerns:

  1. Constitutional Breaches: The Kerala government is accused of failing to protect the Right to Life (Article 21) and Right to Equality (Article 14), essential to preventing internal threats as per Article 355.
  2. Terror Funding and Gold Smuggling: Links between gold smuggling and terrorist financing in Malappuram raise concerns over public safety, with inadequate action from the state.
  3. Political Influence in Law Enforcement: Reports suggest law enforcement may be compromised by political influences, undermining public trust.
  4. Drug Networks and Radicalization: Drug-related crimes and their links to radical groups present a growing security issue that requires urgent action. Call for Action

HRDS INDIA calls for an impartial federal investigation into the Kerala government’s response to these concerns, emphasizing the need for accountability. Mr. Krishnan commented, “Escalating extremism and communal tensions risk dismantling Kerala’s social fabric. We urge immediate intervention to protect the people and uphold the rule of law.”
