The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) strongly condemns derogatory comments made by certain deputy ministers on social media platforms against India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. MATI emphasizes that India has consistently played a significant role in bolstering the Maldives’ tourism industry, especially after the post-COVID-19 period. Since then, India has remained a crucial market for the Maldives, consistently ranking among the top contributors.
In a statement, MATI stated, “The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) strongly condemns the derogatory comments made by some Deputy Ministers on social media platforms directed towards the PM of India, His Excellency Narendra Modi, as well as the people of India.”
Describing India as one of the closest neighbors and allies of the Maldives, MATI highlighted that India has always been a first responder to various crises in the history of the island country. MATI expressed immense gratitude for the close relationship maintained by the Government and the people of India.
“We are immensely grateful for the close relationship that the Government, as well as the people of India, have maintained with us,” stated MATI in a Monday release.
The statement concluded by expressing a sincere wish for the enduring relationship between the two nations for generations to come, emphasizing the importance of refraining from actions or speech that could have any negative impact on their good relationship.
