New Delhi: The opposition INDIA bloc is organizing a significant protest against the BJP-led central government in response to the declining health of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The alliance, which accuses the government of jeopardizing Mr. Kejriwal’s health, will stage a major rally at Jantar Mantar on July 30, according to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Aam aadmi party alleges; the BJP is “conspiring to kill” Mr. Kejriwal while he is in custody and has referenced his medical reports, which indicate that his blood sugar levels fell 26 times between June 3 and July 7.
“The INDIA allience will hold a large rally at Jantar Mantar on 30th of July to highlight the issue of Kejriwal’s deteriorating health,” stated Aam aadmi party.
Mr. Kejriwal was initially arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi liquor scam and has since been granted bail by the Supreme Court. However, he was re-arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on June 26 in a related case and remains detained in Tihar Jail.
Mr. Kejriwal is challenging his CBI arrest and seeking bail. The Delhi High Court is scheduled to hear his petition next Monday.
Mr. Kejriwal’s lawyer, Abhishek Singhvi, has described the arrest as an “insurance arrest,” suggesting that the intention is to prevent Mr. Kejriwal from being released. The CBI has refuted these claims.
Mr. Kejriwal and AAP have dismissed the charges as political vendetta. Despite extensive investigations, the Enforcement Directorate has yet to uncover the alleged bribe money.
Several petitions have called for Mr. Kejriwal to resign from his position as Chief Minister. However, the Supreme Court dismissed one such petition in May, stating that it had “no legal merit” and that Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, the central government’s representative, “doesn’t require our guidance.”
