India and Pakistan agree to full and immediate ceasefire after US-mediated talks

India and Pakistan have agreed to halt all military operations on land, air, and sea from 5:00 PM IST today, according to a statement by India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
The ceasefire was reached following discussions mediated by the United States. Misri said the decision covers all forms of armed engagement between the two countries.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump posted on social media that the United States had facilitated overnight talks leading to the ceasefire agreement. In his statement, Trump said, “India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and intelligence.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that India and Pakistan will also begin formal talks on a wider range of issues at a neutral venue. Rubio, who has been involved in the dialogue process along with Senator JD Vance, said they had spent the past 48 hours in meetings with top Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif.
Rubio praised both leaders for what he described as a responsible decision, saying, “We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace.”
This is the first formal ceasefire agreement between the two countries in several years, and preparations are now underway for the next phase of dialogue.
