Chhattisgarh Accident: women, children, and a newborn among 13 killed in road accident near RaipurA major road accident near Raipur in Chhattisgarh late Sunday night resulted in the death of thirteen people, most of whom were women and children, including a newborn. The crash occurred on the Raipur–Baloda Bazar highway near Saragaon, when a trailer carrying passengers collided head-on with a truck. The victims were returning home after attending a family function.

The collision took place between 11:00 and 11:30 PM near Bangoli village under the Khairora police station limits. The impact of the crash was so severe that thirteen people died on the spot. Around 12 to 15 others suffered serious injuries and were rushed to Mekahara Hospital in Raipur after receiving preliminary medical aid at nearby facilities.

According to local sources, the passengers were residents of Chataud village and had travelled to Bano village to attend a traditional chhathi ceremony at the home of a relative. They were on their way back home when the trailer they were in collided with an oncoming truck. The accident site was left in chaos, with rescue teams working through the night to retrieve bodies and assist the injured.

Raipur District Collector Gaurav Singh confirmed the casualties and said that the district administration responded immediately, deploying teams for rescue and medical aid. Senior Superintendent of Police Lal Umed Singh has siad that the initial investigations suggest overspeeding and driver negligence could have been the cause, though a detailed inquiry is ongoing.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, reacting to the incident on Monday, has also expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of lives and raised concern about the increasing number of road accidents in the state. Baghel urged the BJP-led state government to treat the issue with seriousness and take concrete steps to prevent such tragedies. He also demanded ex gratia compensation for the families of the deceased.
