COVID-19 Cases on the Rise Again: Maharashtra, Karnataka Report Surge in Active Cases; Two Deaths in 48 Hours

New Delhi: India is once again witnessing a gradual uptick in COVID-19 infections. After Kerala and Karnataka, Maharashtra has now reported a fresh spike in daily cases. According to official data, two COVID-related deaths have been reported in the past two days, and the number of active cases nationwide has reached 1,009.
On Sunday, Maharashtra recorded 43 new COVID-19 cases, signaling a rising trend. In a concerning development, a 21-year-old man died of the infection in Thane district. He had been admitted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, where he succumbed to the illness during treatment.
In Karnataka’s capital Bengaluru, an 84-year-old man passed away after testing positive for COVID-19. He was already suffering from multiple chronic health conditions. On May 17, he experienced multi-organ failure, and subsequent testing confirmed COVID-19 infection. Karnataka has reported 38 new cases, 32 of which are from Bengaluru alone.
States like Karnataka and Delhi have issued fresh advisories to encourage precautionary measures in light of the recent uptick. However, health experts emphasize that the situation is not alarming and appears to be limited to isolated, sporadic cases. Most patients have mild symptoms and do not require hospitalization.
Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava has reviewed the situation, with a special focus on states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. According to government sources, most of the recent cases are mild and are being managed at home.
The central government has urged citizens to remain vigilant, avoid misinformation, and follow basic safety protocols such as hygiene and distancing where needed.
