Full Refund for Passengers of Cancelled Flights Due to Delhi Airport Roof Collapse

New Delhi: Passengers affected by the shutdown of Terminal 1 at Delhi Airport until 2 pm today following a roof collapse will receive a full refund, according to Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu. The aviation regulator, DGCA, will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

The roof collapse outside the departure gates is considered a “very serious incident,” the minister stated while overseeing rescue operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The tragic incident occurred around 5 am during heavy rains, resulting in at least one death and four injuries.

Numerous vehicles, including taxis, were damaged when a canopy sheet and support beams outside the Terminal complex fell onto cars bringing passengers to the airport and onto parked vehicles in the pick-up and drop-off area.

All departures from Terminal 1, which handles only domestic flights, have been suspended until 2 pm. Check-in counters have also been closed as a “safety measure,” a spokesperson for Delhi airport reported.
