India and Pakistan extend airspace restrictions until June 23, both countries issue NOTAM

Amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, both nations have decided once again to keep their airspace closed to each other’s aircraft. India has extended its airspace restrictions for Pakistan until June 23, 2025. A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) has been issued by Indian authorities, which serves as a formal notification to the aviation sector regarding flight permissions or restrictions.

According to a statement from India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation, the restriction will apply to aircraft registered in Pakistan and those operated, owned, or leased by Pakistani airlines or operators. The restriction includes military aircraft as well. This means no Pakistani aircraft will be allowed to use Indian airspace until June 23, 2025.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has reciprocated with a similar move. The Pakistan Airports Authority announced that its airspace will remain closed to all Indian airlines until 4:59 AM on June 24. This ban will apply to all aircraft registered, owned, operated, or leased by India, including military flights.

This decision by both countries could impact commercial flights and military operations. The move comes against the backdrop of ongoing political and military tensions. Airspace restrictions like these typically reflect heightened hostilities between nations and can affect the aviation industry as well as travelers.

Experts believe that if the situation persists, it could impact international flight routes and increase operational costs, as airlines may have to use alternate routes.
