India’s defence exports rise to ₹23,622 crore in 2024-25

New Delhi
India’s defence exports continued their upward trajectory in 2024-25, reaching ₹23,622 crore — a dramatic rise from ₹686 crore in 2013-14. The data marks a 34-fold increase over the last decade, highlighting growing participation from both private and public sector players.
According to official figures, the private sector was the biggest contributor this year, exporting defence equipment worth ₹15,233 crore, and the defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) accounted for ₹8,389 crore, registering a 42.85% increase from the previous year.
The number of export authorisations issued rose by 16.92%, while the number of exporters increased by 17.4%, suggesting broader industry engagement in overseas defence markets.
India currently exports defence products to around 80 countries, and the government aims to increase this figure significantly in the coming years, with a target of achieving ₹50,000 crore in annual defence exports by 2028-29.
This growth aligns with India’s broader strategy of achieving self-reliance in defence production under the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative and enhancing its strategic partnerships through defence diplomacy.
