India reports 257 active COVID-19 cases; Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu report most cases

COVID-19 cases are rising sharply in regions like Singapore and Hong Kong, prompting fresh global concern. India, though stable, has reported 257 active cases with Kerala, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu topping the list.
India has recorded a total of 257 active COVID-19 cases as of May 19, 2025, according to official data from the Ministry of Health. While the situation remains stable overall, health authorities are keeping a close watch due to a noticeable rise in COVID-19 cases in Singapore and Hong Kong over the last few weeks.
Within India, Kerala (86), Maharashtra (44), and Tamil Nadu (34) have the highest number of active cases. Karnataka has reported 13 active cases, while Delhi has recorded 2. Notably, Haryana has 1 active case, and Puducherry currently has 3.

The total number of cured/discharged/migrated cases in the country stands at over 4.46 crore (4,46,11,240), with 5,30,888 deaths reported so far since the beginning of the pandemic. Despite the rise in some states, most regions in India continue to report zero active cases, and the health infrastructure remains alert.
While India’s numbers are currently manageable, countries like Singapore and Hong Kong are witnessing a significant increase in new infections. International health experts have advised travellers to remain cautious, particularly in regions seeing a resurgence of cases. The spike abroad also reinforces the need for robust surveillance at ports of entry and continued public health awareness.
Although no new travel restrictions have been announced in India, health authorities encourage citizens to:
- Remain alert to symptoms such as fever, cough, or fatigue.
- Isolate and seek medical attention if symptoms appear.
- Follow standard hygiene practices and avoid crowded places if unwell.
