New Delhi: July 22, 2025
Passengers commuting between Mumbai and Indore now have an upgraded travel option as the Indian Railways launches the Tejas Superfast Special Train on this high-demand route. Beginning July 23, the train will operate thrice a week until August 30, primarily to cater to the festive season rush, especially Raksha Bandhan.
Operates Thrice Weekly in Both Directions
The Indore–Mumbai Tejas Express (Train No. 09086) will depart from Indore every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 5:00 PM, reaching Mumbai Central at 7:10 AM the following day.
Train No. 09085, operating on the return side from Mumbai to Indore, will depart Mumbai Central at 11:20 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, reaching Indore at 1:00 PM the following afternoon.
The Tejas Special will make scheduled halts at key stations along the route, including Borivali, Vapi, Surat, Vadodara, Dahod, Ratlam, and Ujjain, ensuring convenient access for passengers from multiple cities. Options from the train’s routes also makes it a travel option for not only commuters from Mumbai- Indore but to commuters from and to Gujarat. More importantly this route opens accessibility for populated cities like Surat and Vadodara that do not get stops on existing services like Duronto Express.
Premium Experience Onboard
Staying consistent with the Tejas brand, the train will borrow a number of features that include some very modern amenities.
Wi-Fi
Automatic Doors
Passenger Information Systems
Very comfortable, modern interior
These features are intended to add more value to the travel experience (at the same time a passenger experience is greatest under any demand) to passengers travelling in their demanding period of hotel configuration time, especially travelling for a festival.
Price and Class of Coach
As the train offers some premium amenities, it also has a primary fare that is higher than regular trains e.g., the Avantika Express; price list as follows.
AC 3-Tier = ₹1,805
AC 2-Tier = ₹2,430
First AC = ₹3,800
The train will be composed of sixteen LHB coaches with four first AC, three second AC, seven third AC and two power cars.
Encouraging Booking Response and Future Service Possibly
The train underlying was opened for bookings on July 21. Based on the early interest for tickets and rise in passenger demand, then railway officials said the services could be considered on a permanent service on the Mumbai – Indore route basis if the trial run proves positive.
Thus special train is anticipated to become a welcome upgrade to the rail system, to provide better options and capacity to offer improved comfort and connectivity to travelling passenger authority from its scheduling operation time – particularly during the religious festival week.
