It is not possible to understand the nuances of a film without film reading: Dr. Mishra

New Delhi, 4th April, 2025 :

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Management Education and Research Institute, MERI College, Janakpuri organized an online expert talk. The topic of the expert talk was – ‘Art of Film Reading’. Addressing the media students as the keynote speaker, film director Dr. Mahesh Kumar Mishra said that an attempt is made to tell a lot through signs in films. The person who knows these signs can also tell about the purpose of making the film and its utility. Therefore, film reading is considered an important part of film review. He said that it is not possible to understand the nuances of a film without film reading.

Dr. Mishra taught the technique of film reading to the students with the help of scenes from three films – Two Solutions for One Problem, 2 + 2 = 5 and Bread and Alley. A question-answer session was organized at the end of the program in which the students asked many questions related to film reading, which were answered by Dr. Mishra.

In this program which was organized under the guidance of Prof. Lalit Agarwal, Vice President of MERI Group of Institutions, the students learnt many nuances of filmmaking. In the beginning of the program, Dr. SK Pandey, HOD of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, said in his welcome speech that films have a very effective impact on our lives. This is the reason why films are considered an important part of mass communication.

Prof. Sadanand Pandey gave the vote of thanks. The stage was moderated by BA (JAMC) students Harshita Sharma and Ritika.
