The Kanwar Yatra, which started on July 22, has prompted traffic restrictions in Delhi and Noida to ensure the safe movement of devotees carrying kanwars. These measures will be in place until August 4. The Yatra begins on the first day of Sawan (Shravan) and will conclude on August 2 with the offering of holy Ganga water to Lord Shiva.
Noida Traffic Advisory: Routes to Avoid
To manage traffic effectively during the Kanwar Yatra 2024, Noida Police have released a detailed advisory:
- The route from Chilla Red Light to Pakshi Vihar Gate is closed to all vehicular traffic until August 4.
- Police will be stationed at permanent traffic booths near the Chilla Border to manage and monitor traffic.
- Devotees carrying kanwars and those setting up camps can pass through Sector-14A Shani Temple via Okhla Bird Sanctuary.
- Vehicles heading to Bulandshahr, Hapur, and Moradabad via Ghaziabad should use designated alternative routes.
- Traffic from Delhi-Badarpur Border via Okhla Barrage to Noida, destined for Bulandshahr, Hapur, and Moradabad via Ghaziabad, should use the Eastern Peripheral Expressway from Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.
- Vehicles traveling from Delhi via DND Flyway to Noida towards the same destinations should also use the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
Delhi Traffic Advisory: Roads to Avoid
The Delhi Police have also issued a traffic advisory in preparation for the Kanwar Yatra, anticipating congestion in several areas:
- Traffic violations during the movement of Kanwarias will be monitored and enforced through on-the-spot prosecution and the use of photography and videography.
- Devotees carrying kanwars will pass through routes including Apsara Border, Shahdara Flyover, Seelampur ‘T’ Point, ISBT Flyover Boulevard Road, Rani Jhansi Road, Faiz Road, Upper Ridge Road, Dhaula Kuan, NH-8, exiting at Rajokri Border for Haryana.
- Heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) will be diverted by the Uttar Pradesh Police from Mohan Nagar towards NH-24, with no HTVs allowed towards Wazirabad Road via Bhopura or towards GT Road via Apsara Border.
