Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has strongly criticized the central government’s implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), accusing the BJP of intending to allocate Indian jobs and homes to Pakistanis. This criticism comes in response to the Modi Government’s announcement on the evening of March 11 regarding the implementation of the CAA, which was passed in 2019. Kejriwal’s remarks highlight the growing opposition to the CAA Implementation, which has been a contentious issue since its inception.
Kejriwal’s critique centers on the provision of the CAA that allows minorities from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan to apply for Indian citizenship. He asserts that this will lead to an influx of minorities into the country, who will then be provided with jobs and housing. Kejriwal contends that while the BJP struggles to provide employment for Indian citizens and address homelessness within the country, they are eager to accommodate individuals from Pakistan, thereby potentially displacing Indian citizens from their rightful positions and residences.
The Citizenship Amendment Act, introduced by the Narendra Modi government and passed in 2019, aims to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from neighboring countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. These migrants, including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians, who arrived in India before December 31, 2014, are eligible for citizenship under the provisions of the CAA.
