New Delhi: On Monday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh strongly contested the Tihar prison authorities’ assertions regarding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health. Addressing the media, Singh criticized the prison’s claims that Kejriwal was in stable condition with normal vital signs. He revealed that Kejriwal had lost 8.5 kg and experienced hypoglycemia, with blood sugar levels dropping below 50 mg/dL five times since his incarceration, potentially endangering his life.
Singh accused the prison authorities of wrongdoing by publicly disclosing Kejriwal’s medical records. He emphasized that a team of doctors from AIIMS has been monitoring Kejriwal, noting significant and concerning weight loss and hypoglycemia.
Earlier, Tihar Jail officials refuted AAP’s allegations, asserting that Kejriwal’s health was under continuous supervision and that he had only lost 2 kg. They maintained that Kejriwal was regularly evaluated by a medical board from AIIMS and was receiving appropriate care.
In response, the jail administration communicated with the Delhi government’s Home Department, addressing AAP’s claims and warning that such statements could mislead the public. They reaffirmed that Kejriwal was being monitored meticulously, receiving adequate medical attention, and consuming home-cooked meals three times a day.
Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh pointed out that the Tihar authorities’ admission of Kejriwal’s weight loss, albeit less than AAP’s claims, corroborated concerns about his health.
On Sunday, AAP accused the BJP of endangering Kejriwal’s health by detaining him without proper medical care. Delhi cabinet minister Atishi raised alarms over Kejriwal’s “unexplained weight loss of 8.5 kg” and frequent dangerous drops in his blood sugar levels.
Tihar sources reported that Kejriwal’s weight fluctuated from 65 kg upon arrival on April 1 to 66 kg between April 8 and 29, and then to 63.5 kg after returning from bail on June 2. By July 14, his weight had decreased to 61.5 kg, indicating a net loss of 2 kg according to official records.
In their statement, the prison administration denounced the misleading narrative propagated by certain groups, affirming that Kejriwal’s blood pressure, sugar levels, and overall health were being diligently monitored and managed.
