In anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in 2024, the Congress President has expressed concern that if the BJP is re-elected, it will govern India in a manner reminiscent of Putin’s rule in Russia. Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized that this election is the final opportunity for the people of India to “save democracy.” He warned that if Narendra Modi secures another term, India could experience a form of dictatorship with the BJP ruling akin to Putin’s governance in Russia.
During a rally, Kharge likened the BJP and its ideological counterpart RSS to “poison” and stressed the urgency of safeguarding democracy. He asserted that the misuse of investigative agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax is a tactic to intimidate opposition states and leaders. Kharge also highlighted threats faced by opposition figures who resist the ideologies of the BJP and RSS, citing Rahul Gandhi’s resilience in the face of such pressures.
In addressing the issue of violence in Manipur, Kharge accused the BJP-led central government of negligence and challenged Modi to visit the affected regions. He criticized the government’s lack of courage and drew parallels with Indira Gandhi, who faced dangers but did not succumb to fear.
Responding to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s departure from the Mahagathbandhan, Kharge expressed confidence that the alliance could still defeat the BJP, emphasizing that the departure of one individual would not weaken the coalition.
