Khelo India Youth Games 2025: Bihar girls claim third spot in track cycling

The track cycling events at the Khelo India Youth Games 2025 wrapped up on Wednesday at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, with Bihar’s girls’ team securing an impressive third-place finish overall. Jharkhand topped the girls’ category, while Rajasthan emerged champions in the boys’ events.
The final rankings in the girls’ category saw Jharkhand leading with 16 points from two gold and one bronze, including a decisive win in the team sprint. Rajasthan followed with 15 points from three gold medals. Bihar took third place with 10 points, aided by a silver in the team sprint that contributed six crucial points, alongside another silver and a bronze.
Rajasthan dominated the boys’ overall standings, collecting 19 points through three gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. Jharkhand and Maharashtra followed with 14 and 13 points respectively.
The event concluded with a spirited closing ceremony attended by Shri Kundan Kumar, Resident Commissioner of the Bihar Government, and Shri John Kingsley, Secretary from the Madhya Pradesh Government. Shri Kundan Kumar personally congratulated Bihar’s cycling team and praised their grit, noting that their performance was a moment of pride for the state.
The final day’s Keirin races added excitement to the competition. Jharkhand’s Sabina Kumari took gold in the girls’ Keirin, while Maharashtra’s Siddhesh Sarjerao Ghorpade claimed top honours in the boys’ category.
Speaking at the ceremony, Kundan Kumar emphasised the broader significance of sports beyond medals. “These achievements reflect the determination and promise of our youth. Events like these strengthen the foundation for India’s sporting future,” he said.
Officials from various departments, including Bihar Bhawan and the Sports Authority of India, were also present at the event. Organisers noted a surge in participation and audience turnout this year, pointing to the growing popularity of track cycling under the Khelo India initiative.
