West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s health condition remains stable, according to a senior official from the state administration on Friday. Banerjee, aged 69, sustained a significant injury to her forehead and nose following a fall at her Kalighat residence in South Kolkata on Thursday evening. The official reported that she had a restful night’s sleep under close observation by senior doctors. Banerjee received three stitches on her forehead and one on her nose before being discharged after necessary medical examinations at the hospital. Manimoy Bandyopadhyay, the director of SSKM Hospital, stated, “She had a cerebral concussion and sustained a sharp cut on her forehead and nose, which was bleeding profusely.” Investigations including ECG, echocardiogram, CT-Scan, and Doppler were conducted. Security around Banerjee’s residence has been heightened, although police have yet to file a complaint regarding the incident.
Despite the hospital bulletin mentioning the fall was “due to some push,” the police officer declined to comment on any plans to record the CM’s statement or lodge a suo moto complaint. Banerjee is under a “Z+ category” cover and receives special security arrangements, even at her residence.
