
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with his British counterpart, Rishi Sunak, on Friday during the G7 summit in the southern Italian resort city. They are believed to have discussed bilateral relations and shared interests.
The two leaders last met in person at the G20 Summit in New Delhi last September, where they agreed to expedite Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, aiming for completion before India’s general election.
Although, trade talks are now expected to resume after new UK government is elected on 4th of July.
The India-UK FTA negotiations, which began in January 2022, aim to significantly boost bilateral trade, currently valued at around 38.1 billion pounds annually, according to recent official statistics.
