YouTube India’s government affairs and public policy head has been summoned by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) following concerns about inappropriate content featuring mothers and sons. The commission, led by Priyank Kanoongo, has scheduled a meeting on January 15 and provided a list of channels showcasing objectionable videos that depict indecent acts between mothers and sons, including kisses and interactions with teenage sons. Kanoongo emphasized that these videos violate the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012, and called for YouTube to address the issue, asserting that those responsible for such content could face legal consequences, comparing the commercialization of such videos to selling pornography. The NCPCR cited its authority under Section 14 of the CPCR Act, 2005, to summon individuals and gather information. The letter also directed YouTube to appear on January 15 with a comprehensive list of challenges and channels featuring inappropriate content involving minors. Failure to comply was warned to result in legal consequences as outlined in the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908.
