New Delhi : Indian Olympic gold medalist and World Champion Neeraj Chopra clinched the gold medal in the final of the men’s javelin throw event at the Federation Cup 2024. His spear glimmered through the warm Wednesday evening sky after an unusually slow start in his first competitive outing on Indian soil in three years.
The 26-year-old superstar faced initial struggles in the competition and found himself in second place after three rounds. However, he surged ahead in the fourth round with an impressive throw of 82.27m, ultimately deciding not to take his final throw as he was already leading after DP Manu, who settled for silver, had completed his final attempt.
Chopra’s achievements include a historic gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics, winning the Diamond League championship in 2022, becoming world champion in 2023, and successfully defending his Asian Games gold in China.
Furthermore, he secured victories in three individual legs of the Diamond League and claimed a silver medal in the 2022 World Championships.
Despite his remarkable successes, Chopra has yet to surpass the 90m mark. His personal best and national record stand at 89.94m.
