As previously mentioned, Dr. Harish Gupta, a member of the NMC, has confirmed the forthcoming reduction in the NEET PG 2023 Cut-Off, as requested by medical associations such as the Federation of Resident Doctors Association IMA. Cut-Off Reduction Will Not Compromise Education Quality: NMC Member

Dr. Harish Gupta, as quoted by the Indian Express, stated, “The reduction in the NEET PG 2023 cut-off will not diminish the standard of medical education, nor will it compromise the quality of service. Students will still be admitted to postgraduate programs after completing a rigorous MBBS course. The MBBS curriculum is designed to meet the medical needs of the country.”

NEET PG 2023 Cut-Off

Currently, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Post Graduate Cut-Off (NEET PG Cut-Off) stands at 50 percentile for general/unreserved category students, 45 percentile for PwD category students, and 40 percentile for students in other reserved categories. The NMC has not disclosed the extent of the cut-off reduction or the timeline for its implementation.

IMA’s Letter to Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) shared a copy of their letter to the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter). In the letter, IMA requested a revision of the cut-off criteria for NEET PG 2023. This move aims to ensure that a significant number of aspiring doctors can secure enrollment in postgraduate programs across various medical colleges in the country and prevent any unfilled postgraduate seats.

The IMA explained, “Due to high cut-off scores, aspiring medical students may not only be deterred from pursuing postgraduation but may also feel compelled to go abroad to pursue their desired postgraduate fields, further depleting India’s medical workforce. At a time when the country requires a robust medical workforce to safeguard its citizens, we cannot afford to lose these valuable talents.”

The IMA emphasized the critical importance of ensuring an adequate supply of medical staff to meet the healthcare needs of the nation and requested a reduction of up to 30% in the NEET PG 2023 cut-off percentile to fill most of the seats in both clinical and non-clinical branches.
