Last Minute Delay In The NEET UG Counselling Amid Ongoing Controversy

Counselling for NEET UG 2024 has been postponed indefinitely, as the Supreme Court addresses calls for cancellation due to alleged malpractices. The NTA and Union Education Ministry oppose these calls, emphasizing the impact on honest applicants.

New Delhi, 6 July 2024

On Saturday, the counselling for NEET UG was further delayed until further notice, with new dates yet to be announced. The National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Center informed the Supreme Court on July 5 that, in the absence of evidence of widespread confidentiality breaches, eliminating the exam will affect lakhs of honest applicants. This decision comes amid growing demands to cancel the disputed NEET-UG 2024 exam due to alleged malpractices.

After the NEET UG question paper leaks and impersonation during the test on May 5, the Union Education Ministry and the NTA have been at the center of media discussions and protests by students and political parties. NTA conducts the NEET exam for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses.

The Union Education Ministry and the NTA each submitted a separate affidavit objecting to the requests, which called for the controversial exam to be withdrawn and a court-monitored investigation into the full range of issues raised. The case now had been taken over by the country’s premier investigative agency CBI. (Also read: The first ‘Robot Suicide’ in the world, Know here)
