No, Indian Passport Ranking hasn’t fallen to 149 — It’s 85th with Visa-Free access to 57 Countries in 2025

Recently on Twitter, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate shared a post that quickly sparked political debate and public confusion. Along with an image, she tweeted:
“2014 में भारत की पासपोर्ट रैंकिंग 76 थी
2025 में भारत की पासपोर्ट रैंकिंग 149 हो गई
डंका बज रहा है या बैंड?”
The tweet claimed that the Indian passport ranking has plummeted under the present regime. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also reiterated the criticism, citing accusations of limited global mobility for Indian people.
However, the Henley Passport Index 2025, released in January, disproves these claims. India now ranks 85th, not 149th, and offers visa-free travel to 57 countries globally.
The Henley Passport Index is considered the original and most authoritative passport ranking, based on how many destinations passport holders can access without obtaining a prior visa. The index uses exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and is refined by Henley & Partners’ research team. Additional analysis is available in the Global Mobility Report 2025.
