New Delhi: A private school in Noida’s Sector 132 has come under scrutiny after issuing a circular requesting parents not to include non-vegetarian food in their children’s lunch boxes. This request has led to an outcry among some parents, who took to social media to express their concerns. They accused the school of overstepping its boundaries and infringing on students’ personal dietary choices.
Some parents felt the request was an “invasion” of their children’s dietary preferences, while others supported the school’s stance, arguing that non-vegetarian food is not suitable for a school environment.
Supriti Chauhan, Principal of Delhi Public School, explained that the request was made to prevent non-vegetarian food from spoiling due to the hot and humid weather conditions. She clarified that this was not a directive but a recurring request made every year, emphasizing that there is no ban, directive, or advisory—just a respectful request.
The circular outlined two primary considerations:
Health and Safety:
he circular noted that non-vegetarian food, if not stored and handled properly after being cooked in the morning, could pose serious health risks, and the school prioritizes the well-being of its students.
Inclusivity and Respect:
The school emphasized its commitment to diversity and inclusivity. By maintaining a vegetarian food environment, the school aims to ensure that all students feel respected and comfortable during mealtime, regardless of their dietary preferences or restrictions.
The circular has sparked mixed reactions on social media. One user commented, “School is not a restaurant or hotel.
