NEW DELHI, 11 April 2025 —
In a step toward strengthening international cooperation in the renewable energy sector, the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) and SolarPower Europe have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening solar manufacturing collaboration between India and the European Union (EU).
This strategic partnership comes at a time when global trade uncertainties are prompting regions to focus on building resilient, diversified, and future-ready solar value chains. The agreement reinforces the growing synergy between India and the EU in the clean energy space, particularly in manufacturing, technology sharing, and regulatory support.
NSEFI Leads India’s Push for Global Solar Manufacturing
As one of the world’s fastest-growing solar markets, India is increasingly attracting European solar companies, many of which are bringing high-efficiency products, advanced technical expertise, and long-term operational reliability. Meanwhile, NSEFI has been at the forefront of mobilizing domestic solar manufacturing capabilities, helping India emerge as a competitive player in the global clean energy supply chain.
Through this renewed MoU, NSEFI and SolarPower Europe will jointly identify new business and investment opportunities for solar manufacturing projects. The agreement also focuses on regulatory support, including smoother market access for solar components, and policy engagement to unlock further cooperation between the two regions.
Key Areas of Collaboration:
- Identification of joint manufacturing and financing opportunities
- Technical knowledge exchange and capacity building
- Policy engagement to resolve regulatory challenges
- Strengthening of upstream solar equipment manufacturing
Leadership Speaks on the India-EU Solar Alliance
Máté Heisz, Chief Operating Officer of SolarPower Europe, said:
“The EU and India are vital partners in the global clean energy transition. With new EU frameworks like the Net-Zero Industry Act, demand for trusted and resilient solar products is rising. India plays a key role in diversifying the global supply chain. Our extended collaboration with NSEFI will unlock market access for European manufacturers and developers, while also supporting India’s ambitious solar deployment goals.”
Subrahmanyam Pulipaka, Chief Executive Officer of NSEFI, added:
“India and the EU are natural allies in the clean energy journey. As India moves swiftly towards its target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy by 2030, it is also positioning itself as a global solar manufacturing hub. Our partnership with SolarPower Europe will enable innovation, cross-border investments, and resilient value chains that benefit not only India and Europe, but also the global energy ecosystem.”
This partnership forms a part of SolarPower Europe’s International Solar Manufacturing Initiative (ISMI), which promotes international collaboration in solar manufacturing — particularly in upstream equipment production — between Europe and high-growth markets like India. With NSEFI as a key player, the initiative aims to bridge global capabilities and strengthen solar infrastructure.
