New Delhi: A barn owl (Tyto alba) in distress was found at the Indian Accent Restaurant within The Lodhi Hotel in Pragati Vihar, Delhi. The Wildlife SOS Rapid Response Unit successfully rescued the owl, which is currently under the NGO’s observation and will be released back into its natural habitat once fully recovered.
Hotel staff observed the barn owl on the restaurant premises, unable to fly. Recognizing urgency, they promptly contacted Wildlife SOS emergency rescue helpline at +91-98719 63535.
Wildlife SOS immediately dispatched an experienced team to the location. The owl was then transported to their rescue center for a comprehensive medical examination. Initial assessments indicated that the owl was suffering from weakness and dehydration, likely due to heat stroke. The veterinary team administered Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and placed the owl in a cool environment. The bird remains under observation and will be released once it is deemed fit.
Pooja Sharma, Restaurant Manager at Indian Accent, remarked, “The prompt response from Wildlife SOS in rescuing the owl was commendable. As someone who deeply cares about wildlife, I was extremely concerned when I discovered the distressed bird on our premises.”
Kartick Satyanarayan, Co-founder & CEO of Wildlife SOS, emphasized the importance of timely intervention, stating, “For birds of prey, such as barn owls, the ability to fly is essential for hunting and survival. It is important that rescue cases like these are attended to promptly and efficiently. The quick action taken by the hotel staff and Wildlife SOS is praiseworthy.”
