PM Modi and Mamata Banerjee to Clash in West Bengal Campaign Rally Showdown

PM Modi is set to kick off his campaign in West Bengal on Thursday with a rally in north Bengal’s Cooch Behar. Shortly after, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will visit Cooch Behar for her campaign, holding two rallies on the same day. This marks the first time the two leaders will address constituents on the same day this election season.

West Bengal, with 42 seats in the 543-seat Lok Sabha, holds the highest number of seats, followed by Uttar Pradesh (80) and Maharashtra (48).

In the previous 2019 elections, the BJP had its best-ever showing in the state, securing 18 seats, including seven of the eight seats in north Bengal. The Congress won two seats, while the ruling Trinamool Congress in the state secured twenty-two.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi submitted his nomination papers on Wednesday from his Wayanad constituency in Kerala, where he currently serves as an MP. The historic party is set to release its general election manifesto on April 5.

The Lok Sabha elections in 2024 are scheduled in phases as follows:

Phase One: April 10
Phase Two: April 26
Phase Three: May 7
Phase Four: May 13
Phase Five: May 20
Phase Six: May 25
Phase Seven: June 1
