Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Dras today to honor the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, paying tribute to the courageous soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty. His visit to the Kargil War Memorial is scheduled for around 9:20 am, where he will solemnly commemorate the fallen heroes.
Ahead of the Prime Minister’s arrival, extensive security arrangements have been put in place at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras.
In a significant move, Prime Minister Modi will virtually initiate the inaugural blast for the Shinkun La Tunnel Project. An official statement revealed that this ambitious project will feature a 4.1 km twin-tube tunnel, constructed at an altitude of approximately 15,800 feet on the Nimu-Padum-Darcha Road, ensuring all-weather connectivity to Leh. Upon completion, this will be the highest tunnel in the world, enhancing the mobility of the armed forces and fostering economic and social growth in Ladakh.
As the nation commemorates the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas, families of the soldiers reflect on the valor and dedication of their loved ones who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 conflict with Pakistan in the icy heights of Kargil.
Observed annually on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas marks the success of Operation Vijay in 1999, when Indian forces successfully reclaimed strategic positions in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistani infiltrators.
