New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks aimed at former Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi led to an Opposition walkout from the Rajya Sabha during his reply to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge led the walkout after Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar denied him permission to intervene.
Prime Minister Modi criticized the Opposition for governing “on auto-pilot and remote control,” a comment directed at Mrs. Gandhi. He emphasized the government’s hard work and dismissed the Opposition’s behavior as an insult to the Upper House and its traditions.
Chairman Dhankhar condemned the Opposition’s conduct as disrespectful to the Constitution and urged them to reflect on their actions. The Prime Minister also criticized Congress over its role during the Emergency, highlighting the 1977 election as a testament to India’s commitment to democracy.
