Kejriwal Supports Singh Amidst 1,000 Raids.

Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, has expressed his solidarity with his colleague Sanjay Singh, whose residence was searched this morning in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. The Delhi Chief Minister asserted that despite more than 1,000 raids conducted, not a single penny of unlawfully acquired funds had been discovered.
Mr. Kejriwal also criticized the ruling BJP (although he did not explicitly name them) and accused the party of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making “desperate attempts” to undermine their political opponents ahead of next year’s general election.
“For the past year, we have witnessed continuous noise about an alleged liquor scam. Over 1,000 raids have been carried out, yet not a single rupee has been recovered,” Mr. Kejriwal stated.
“They simply keep alleging ‘scam.’ I conducted extensive investigations and found nothing.”
“… (and) nothing will be found at Sanjay Singh’s residence either. With elections approaching, they seem to be feeling threatened, so this appears to be their last desperate attempt,” he declared.
The Chief Minister, along with other opposition leaders, has accused the BJP of using government agencies to harass their rivals and critics. He also seemed to reference the recent controversy surrounding the raids on NewsClick Tuesday morning.
The news website has been accused of receiving ₹38 crore from China-linked entities for propagandist purposes, and its founder, Prabir Purkayastha, was arrested late last night.
“Yesterday it happened to journalists. Today it happened to Sanjay Singh. Now, wait until the elections… maybe it will happen to you too,” he told reporters.
The Enforcement Directorate conducted a raid on Sanjay Singh’s residence in Delhi on Wednesday morning in connection with money laundering charges related to the AAP government’s (now-defunct) liquor excise policy case from 2021.
He is the latest AAP leader to come under scrutiny from central agencies in this case, following the arrest of former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia by the CBI and the ED.
Authorities believe that Mr. Singh introduced Mr. Sisodia, whom they allege to be the mastermind of the alleged scam, to a businessman who had been granted bail after becoming a police informant.
In April, Mr. Kejriwal himself was questioned for nearly nine hours in connection with this case.
