New Delhi: June 18, 2025
In a powerful address at the Outreach Session of the G7 Summit in Canada, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need for united global action against terrorism, reiterated India’s commitment to energy security, and championed the concerns of the Global South amid rising geopolitical tensions.
“Terrorism Is an Attack on Humanity” : PM Modi
Addressing the summit in Kananaskis, PM Modi called for strict international action against nations that support terrorism. Highlighting the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, he termed it a direct assault on civilization and expressed gratitude for the global solidarity extended to India.
“Terrorism is not just a threat to any one country it is an attack on humanity,” he declared.
Amplifying the Voice of the Global South
In light of the ongoing Iran-Israel crisis, Prime Minister Modi stressed that developing nations suffer the most from worldwide instability. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to serving as the voice of the Global South on the international stage.
“India has taken up the responsibility of bringing the concerns of the Global South to the global platform,” he said.
This statement comes at a significant geopolitical juncture, as Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir visits the United States for a meeting with former President Donald Trump.
Energy Security: A Future-Centric Challenge
At a special session focused on energy security, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for the invitation and extended congratulations to G7 nations on the summit’s 50th anniversary.
Stressing the long-term importance of energy policy, he noted,
“Energy security is not just a challenge for today, but one that future generations will face.”
He highlighted India’s energy approach built on four pillars — availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability — and reaffirmed India’s commitment to inclusive growth.
India’s Role in Sustainable Development
Positioning India as a global leader in climate action, Modi pointed out that India is not only one of the fastest-growing economies but also a country that fulfilled its Paris Agreement commitments ahead of schedule.
He cited India’s pioneering global initiatives such as:
International Solar Alliance (ISA)
Global Biofuel Alliance
One Sun One World One Grid
Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI)
These, he said, exemplify India’s proactive role in combating climate change.
Human-Centric Approach to Technology and AI
Closing his address, PM Modi called for a values-driven approach to emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence.
“The purpose of any technology should be to bring meaningful change to people’s lives,” he emphasized.
He advocated for aligning technological progress with human values, suggesting that synergy between tech and clean energy is key to building a sustainable, green future.
With this address, PM Modi underscored India’s growing influence on the global stage — as a responsible economic power, a voice for the marginalized, and a leader in sustainable development.
