New Delhi: The controversy surrounding the NEET exam for medical course admissions, including leaked question papers and the award of ‘grace marks,’ was addressed by President Droupadi Murmu in her speech in Parliament on Thursday morning.
Speaking to a joint session of both Houses— the first of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term and likely to be marked by opposition protests over the NEET issue—Ms. Murmu assured that the government is “committed to a fair investigation” and promised “strict punishment for the culprits.”
“The recent irregularities and paper leaks are being addressed firmly. The government’s focus is on improving the examination process,” the President stated amidst the uproar over the NEET controversy.
“Such incidents (leaked question papers) have occurred in many states…there is a need for measures that go beyond politics,” she told the gathered MPs from both the ruling and opposition parties.
