New Delhi: On Friday, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi asserted that the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) is planning a raid against him following his ‘Chakravyuh’ speech in Parliament on July 29.
Gandhi mentioned that he has been informed by insiders within the ED about the planned raid and stated he is ready to face it. He posted on X, writing, “Apparently, 2 in 1 didn’t like my Chakravyuh speech. ED ‘insiders’ tell me a raid is being planned. Waiting with open arms, @dir_ed. Chai and biscuits on me.”
This development follows Gandhi’s critical address on the Union Budget 2024 in the Lok Sabha, where he condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the country’s farmers, workers, and youth are living in fear.
During his speech, Gandhi referenced the ‘Chakravyuh’ formation from the Mahabharata, likening it to current political dynamics. He claimed that just as Abhimanyu was trapped in a ‘Chakravyuh’—also known as ‘Padmavyuh’ (Lotus formation)—a new ‘Chakravyuh’ has been constructed in modern India. He criticized PM Modi for prominently displaying the lotus symbol and accused six individuals—Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Mohan Bhagwat, Ajit Doval, Ambani, and Adani—of controlling the country.
“The budget has betrayed the middle class, who once enthusiastically supported the Prime Minister by banging thalis,” Gandhi added, asserting that the government’s policies are harming millions of people.
In response, BJP MP Anurag Thakur mocked Gandhi’s references to the Mahabharata, suggesting that some people’s understanding of Hindu traditions is superficial. Thakur listed seven ‘Chakravyuhs’ attributed to the Congress Party, with the first being the division of the country.
Prime Minister Modi praised Thakur’s speech, describing it as “a perfect mix of facts and humour,” which effectively countered Gandhi’s address.
The ongoing budget session, which commenced on July 22, is scheduled to conclude on 12th of August.
