Rahul Gandhi Urges Speaker to Expunge Remarks Made by BJP Leaders

Congress MP & Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi recently met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to discuss derogatory remarks made by BJP leaders, Nishikant Dubey and Sambit Patra, in the Lok Sabha. The remarks, made on December 5, linked Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party to Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros, sparking outrage among the Opposition.

The Congress members, upset by the comments, raised the issue in Parliament, demanding action on their notices regarding a breach of privilege against the two BJP MPs, as a result, the House was adjourned. Congress leader, in his meeting with the Speaker, requested that the derogatory remarks be expunged from the official record.

Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with Speaker Birla was aimed at addressing the comments that he felt were inappropriate and damaging. He also emphasized the need for the House to function smoothly and for the focus to remain on meaningful debates, particularly on issues like the Adani controversy.
