Ranbir Kapoor faced criticism for shouting “Jai Mata Di” while setting fire to a rum cake with alcohol at the Kapoor Christmas lunch, hosted by Kunal Kapoor. The act was deemed insulting by some netizens. The couple, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, attended the lunch, making it extra special as they revealed their daughter Raha’s face. As per Kapoor family tradition, Kunal prepares a Christmas cake or pudding for the meal, and annually adds the final touch by setting it on fire after pouring alcohol over it. A video of the Kapoors engaging in this custom went viral on social media. Ranbir, holding a kitchen lighter, eagerly exclaimed “Jai Mata Di” as he prepared to ignite the cake alongside Kunal.
The video quickly spread on social media, drawing reactions from users. Some responded with laughing emojis, while others criticized Ranbir for the act. One user commented, “Jai Mata Di while cutting a Christmas cake, Ranbir Kapoor Bhai,” while another expressed concern about perceived disrespect to Hindus, stating, “People, he is going to play the role of Bhagwan Ram. See their way to insult Hindus first; they will cut cake for Christmas with pouring alcohol on it and finish with Jai Mata Di. #RanbirKapoor #AnimalMovie.”
Navya Nanda had previously shared a photo on Instagram featuring the entire Kapoor family, including Alia Bhatt holding their daughter Raha. Other notable attendees at the Christmas celebration included Agastya Nanda, Nikhil Nanda, Karisma Kapoor with her children Samaira and Kiaan, Randhir Kapoor, Rima Jain, Neila Devi, and Babita Kapoor.
