Rohit Sharma Sets New Benchmark, Surpassing Sourav Ganguly’s ICC Captaincy Record

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has further enhanced his record in ICC events, establishing himself as a formidable leader.
India has qualified for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Super Eight stage, having won all their games against Ireland, Pakistan, and the United States in New York. Their final group stage match will be against Canada on June 15 in Florida. Regardless of the outcome, India will advance to the next round.

Captain Rohit Sharma has continued to improve his record in ICC events. His precise bowling adjustments and strategic decisions enabled India to defend 119 runs against their bitter rivals, Pakistan. His leadership was equally commendable in other matches, ensuring India’s perfect record.

With this current three-match winning streak, Rohit Sharma has surpassed Sourav Ganguly to become the second most successful Indian skipper in ICC competitions. Under Ganguly’s leadership, India won 16 of 22 games. In contrast, under Rohit, India has now won 17 of 20 ICC tournament matches, including a streak of 10 consecutive victories leading to the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia.
Rohit now stands second only to MS Dhoni in terms of the most wins as an Indian captain in ICC events. Dhoni, the only captain in history to have won all three ICC titles, led India to victory in 41 out of 58 ICC matches. Other notable Indian captains include Virat Kohli, Kapil Dev, and Mohammad Azharuddin, with records of 13 wins out of 19 matches, 11 out of 15, and 11 out of 25, respectively.
