In a momentous ceremony at the Awadh Mudra Utsav 2024, esteemed numismatist Mr. Sanjeev Kumar was awarded the Gold Medal of the Awadh Numismatic Society in recognition of his exceptional contributions to numismatics and Indian history. The event, held at The Regnant Hotel, brought together distinguished scholars, historians, and enthusiasts from around the globe.
A highlight of the evening was the release of two pivotal books, including Mr. Kumar’s own “Treasures of the Gupta Empire: A Numismatic History of the Golden Age of India.” This work has garnered acclaim for its in-depth examination of the Gupta dynasty’s coinage and its profound influence on India’s Golden Age.
The award was presented by the Chief Guest, Shri Jay Pratap Singh, Senior MLA and Ex-Minister for Health, Government of Uttar Pradesh, during the inauguration of the Awadh Mudra Utsav—a premier coin exhibition and seminar.
Mr. Kumar’s groundbreaking research illuminates the cultural and economic wealth of the Gupta period, often celebrated as a defining chapter in India’s history. His book provides readers with an intricate look at the coins from this era, inviting them to explore the numismatic treasures that characterize India’s Golden Age.
The event also featured the presentation of Silver Medals by the Shivlee Trust (Chicago, USA) to esteemed scholars such as Prof. KK Thaplyal, Prof. Deen Bandhu Pandey, Dr. Shailendra Bhandare, and Dr. Dilip Rajgor, acknowledging their remarkable contributions to the field.
Another significant highlight was the seminar on “The Treasures of the Gupta Empire,” where distinguished scholars presented research papers, enriching the dialogue and knowledge exchange on this fascinating subject.
The Awadh Mudra Utsav will continue until 22nd September 2024, featuring exhibitions and auctions that draw collectors and enthusiasts eager to engage with the rare numismatic history on display.
