IPL 2025: MI add Jonny Bairstow, Richard Gleeson & Charith Asalanka as backup players for playoff
As the league stage of IPL 2025 nears its end, Mumbai Indians (MI) have announced changes to their squad ahead of a possible Playoffs entry. The team has signed Jonny Bairstow, Richard Gleeson, and Charith Asalanka as replacement players for Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton, and Corbin Bosch. These three players are set to leave for national duties after MI’s last league game.
Jonny Bairstow, the experienced wicketkeeper-batter from England, will replace Will Jacks. He has been signed for ₹5.25 crore. Known for his power-hitting and experience in big matches, Bairstow could be a valuable addition to MI’s batting lineup if the team makes it to the knockout stage.
Ryan Rickelton will be replaced by Richard Gleeson, a right-arm fast bowler from England. Gleeson joins the team at a base price of ₹1 crore. His pace and accuracy are expected to strengthen MI’s bowling department in the crucial matches ahead.
Sri Lankan batter Charith Asalanka has been picked as a replacement for Corbin Bosch. Asalanka, who has shown solid form in international cricket, has been signed at a base price of ₹75 lakhs. He brings stability to the middle order and could play an important role if given the chance.
These new players will be available to play only if Mumbai Indians qualify for the Playoffs. With some of their key players leaving, MI has taken early steps to ensure they have reliable options ready for the next stage of the tournament.
