Patna: Amid soaring temperatures and a severe heatwave in Bihar, several students at a school in Sheikhpura fell unconscious on Wednesday. These students were subsequently admitted to a hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Videos on social media show over 16 students collapsing due to the intense heat. One video from Madhya Vidyalaya Mankaul in the Ariyari police station area of Sheikhpura district depicts students partially unconscious on the ground and breathing heavily, with others rushing to provide water and relief.
This incident coincides with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a heatwave alert for five districts in Bihar on Wednesday. Aurangabad recorded the highest temperature at 47 degrees Celsius, breaking a 54-year-old record previously held by Gaya.
The weather department forecasts that the heatwave will affect Buxar, Aurangabad, Gaya, Kaimur, and Rohtas districts. Additionally, a heatwave alert is in effect for Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Bhabua, Rohtas, Aurangabad, and Nawada districts.
