
New Delhi: In her inaugural Rajya Sabha speech, philanthropist and author Sudha Murty called for a government-backed cervical cancer vaccination program targeting girls aged 9-14. She cited the successful Covid-19 vaccination drive as evidence of the government’s capability to manage such an initiative. Murty emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare, noting the vaccine’s effectiveness and affordability.
Murty also urged the recognition of 57 domestic sites as World Heritage Sites to boost tourism. She highlighted significant locations, including the Bahubali statue in Karnataka, Lingaraja Temple, and Shivaji forts in Maharashtra. Murty stressed the need for improved infrastructure to enhance tourist experiences and increase revenue.
During the session, various members discussed pressing issues, including the Congress’ allegations against AAP, concerns over NEET exams, and the BJP’s stance on electoral bonds and political violence.
