Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, is likely to establish its first manufacturing plant in India, with Gujarat being the potential state for the facility. According to media reports, negotiations for the company’s inaugural manufacturing unit are in the final stages and expected to conclude soon. The formal announcement is anticipated to take place during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit scheduled for January 2024, as reported by Ahmedabad Mirror.
Gujarat, already a manufacturing hub for major companies like Maruti Suzuki, is speculated to host the Tesla plant in locations such as Sanand, Becharaji, and Dholera, according to the Ahmedabad Mirror.
Ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat summit in January 2024, the Gujarat government expresses optimism about Tesla’s potential investment in the state. Gujarat Health Minister and government spokesperson Rushikesh Patel highlighted the alignment between Tesla’s objectives and the state’s aspirations, drawing parallels with Elon Musk’s vision.
The upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) scheduled for January 10 to 12, 2024, focuses on GIFT City as a significant area of interest. International companies from countries including the UAE, Japan, Australia, Singapore, and the USA have shown interest in exploring investment opportunities in the GIFT International Financial Services Centre (GIFT IFSC), according to government officials.
While GIFT City has already attracted substantial investments, the state government has engaged with over 1,000 companies through international and domestic roadshows and delegation visits leading up to the VGGS. The discussions involved sharing the government’s vision for GIFT IFSC and exploring opportunities for companies to establish or expand their businesses within the region.
