10th February, 2025
The women’s 4x100m relay event witnessed high drama as Karnataka clinched the gold medal after a nail-biting photo finish against Tamil Nadu in the final leg of the race.
Karnataka’s Unnathi Aiyappa and Tamil Nadu’s Giridharani R fought fiercely for the top spot, with Karnataka finishing first with a time of 46.99 seconds, narrowly ahead of Tamil Nadu at 47.01 seconds. However, moments after the race concluded, Tamil Nadu, along with Odisha and Uttarakhand, was disqualified for an incorrect baton exchange.

Technical Error Leads to Disqualifications
According to the technical committee, the athletes from these three teams violated baton exchange rules during the second exchange, leading to their disqualification. Tamil Nadu’s team, however, disputed the ruling, arguing that a line official instructed them to step back, causing a false start.
Protest Rejected by Athletics Jury
Tamil Nadu lodged an official protest, delaying the presentation ceremony. However, after reviewing the situation, the Athletics Federation of India’s jury dismissed the appeal, upholding the disqualification.
With Tamil Nadu’s disqualification, Karnataka officially secured the gold medal, while the final standings for silver and bronze were revised following the ruling.
