
Uzbekistan’s Tourism Minister Umid Shodiev Leads ‘Bakhor’ Dance Ensemble in a cultural showcase at MERI

The Management Education & Research Institute (MERI) Centre for International Studies in New Delhi witnessed a mesmerizing cultural evening as Uzbekistan’s celebrated State Dance Ensemble “Bakhor” set the stage ablaze with their breathtaking performances. The ensemble, founded in 1957, comprises over 60 talented dancers, singers, and musicians who have showcased the richness of Uzbek art in more than 20 countries.
The event opened with a soulful Ganesh Vandana, setting a serene and auspicious tone. Led by Uzbekistan’s Tourism Minister, Mr. Umid Shodiev, the ensemble performed in the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Ambassador Sardor Rustambaev and MERI President Shri I.P. Aggarwal. Faculty members, Uzbek diplomats, and cultural enthusiasts also attended, making it a truly special occasion.
The audience was enthralled by a mix of traditional Uzbek music and dance, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the Rubab and Doira. Dancers in vibrant costumes performed the high-energy Lazgi Dance, the graceful Bukhara Dance, and the lively Khorezm Dance, immersing everyone in Uzbekistan’s cultural spirit. Performers like Hushnoza, Ruhshona, Mamurjon, Sanjar, and Farrukh left a lasting impression with their artistry.
The evening concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. (Dr.) Deepshikha Kalra, Dean of MERI College, who praised the event as a beautiful cultural exchange. As the performances ended, the audience departed with a newfound appreciation for Uzbekistan’s artistic excellence and MERI’s commitment to global cultural connections.
