Bollywood star Vicky Kaushal is already set to mesmerize audiences with his forthcoming historical drama Chhaava, in which he is going to share screen for the first time with South Indian actress Rashmika Mandanna. The film is making a lot of news due to its interesting plot and the extreme physical transformation of Vicky.
Recently, during a promotion for Chhaava, Vicky shared how his preparation was for the role, the strenuous challenges of the preparation, and, of course, his wife Katrina Kaif’s take on the rugged new-look.
Vicky Kaushal gained 25 kg for the film
Chhaava turned out to be one of the most intense transformations that Vicky had to undergo in his career. His director laid down three specific conditions which he had to meet before stepping into the shoes of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
1. Bulking up – Gain 25Kg
What came as one of the major hurdles was gaining 25 kilos to match the physical stature of Sambhaji Maharaj. That, according to him, required an unwavering diet, real strict strength training, and discipline.
Even though he has always had a really nice, athletic, lean body, it’s more imposing that he must carry for this particular role, which makes it an even bigger challenge.
2. Learn Horse Riding in Six Months
Since Chhaava is a historical epic, quite a few scenes have action shots of Vicky riding a horse. But before signing the film, he had zero experience with horses. However, he thought differently. He devoted himself for six months in order to acquire this skill.
“Riding a horse isn’t just sitting on it and going forward; you build a relationship with it, learn its movements, and then you can control it with confidence,” he said during the event.
3. Training for Raw, Realistic Combat Scenes
Unlike many modern films that have fight sequences done in heavy reliance on VFX, Chhaava largely relies on real raw and gritty combat. The director wanted the battles to look as natural as possible; therefore, Vicky had to undergo seven months of rigorous training in combat.
The actor revealed that he trained in various forms of traditional fighting techniques, so that the action looked convincing. “The fights in Chhaava are not choreographed to look stylish. They are meant to be brutal, intense, and real,” he explained.
Lessons Learned from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj
When asked whether he adopted any personal characteristics of this great warrior on screen, Vicky humbly replied, “We can imitate humans, but he is a god. You can learn from a god, but you can never be like one.”
This answer signified deep respect for Sambhaji Maharaj-pictures of a king generous of spirit, yet valiant with mind and action, truly dedicated to his people.
The First Thing Vicky Ate After Chhaava
Of course, Vicky’s fans wanted to know what he pigged out on post-Chhaava shoot after putting his body through such extreme changes. His response: simply-Gol Gappe!
Having undergone a crash diet for months before this, he said he could not wait to gorge himself on Gol Gappe post-Chhaava, which was just hilarious. He even posted a quick Instagram story to commemorate the moment.

Katrina Kaif’s Reaction to Woolly Vicky In Chhaava
Vicky’s transformation for Chhaava with long hair, thick beard, and muscular body has been one of the major talking points. Smiling while revealing his wife’s reaction to his rough new look, he said, “She loved it! In fact, she misses it.”
Katrina has always been a great supporter of Vicky, and her appreciation for all his efforts in transforming for his role is evident.
Mahavatar Is Something He Hints About
At the Chhaava press conference in Delhi, Vicky said something about another big project that excited fans-Mahavatar.
He said that for Mahavatar, he will have a look very similar to that of Chhaava with more bulk and a rugged beard. This can also mean that Mahavatar has a lot of action and thrilling moments, which definitely will give rise to a lot of excitement among the fans.
The Last Say: Dedication and Passion
Vicky Kaushal again and again shows his commitment. The transformation he did for Chhaava-gaining weight, learning horse riding, and intense-stage combat training-was just the icing on the cake of his passion for ‘truth’ in filmmaking.
While fans await its big-screen launch, chatter about his shining performance in Mahavatar has begun to gain momentum. Vicky Kaushal continues to redefine and awe audiences with his passion and versatility in both historical recreations and modern-day action movies.
