Fake Parcel Scam: Man Purchases Rs 1 Lakh Sony TV on Flipkart, Receives an Unexpected Surprise

A man was left utterly shocked when, during Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale, he unboxed an item that turned out to be something completely different from what he had expected. The man, who goes by the username @thetrueindian on X, had eagerly anticipated receiving his Sony TV so he could watch the ongoing ICC Men’s ODI World Cup. However, his excitement turned into dismay when he discovered that the television he had bought for Rs 1 Lakh was, in fact, a lower-priced TV from a different brand.
Sharing his unfortunate experience, he stated: “I had purchased a Sony TV from @Flipkart on 7th Oct, it was delivered on 10th Oct, and the Sony installation technician arrived on 11th Oct. To our astonishment, when he unboxed the TV, we found a Thomson TV inside the Sony box, and it came with no accessories like a stand or remote.”

He posted a detailed thread along with pictures of the unboxing process, explaining that he immediately contacted Flipkart’s customer service to report the issue. Unfortunately, even after two weeks, the problem remained unresolved.
One of the pictures also revealed the cost of the television he had bought, which was Rs 99,999.
“I talk with Flipkart customer service right away, and they requested me that I upload images of the TV, which I did as instructed. However, they asked me multiple times to upload the images, and even after two weeks of requesting a return, my request still hasn’t been processed,” he lamented.
The post quickly gained widespread attention and drew responses from the public.
While many people wondered why he hadn’t selected ‘Open Box Delivery,’ the user clarified: “This delivery was handled by Delhivery, and open box delivery was not an option.”
He also mentioned the name of the seller, Omnitechretail, and added, “I had been eagerly waiting for the Big Billion Days sale to purchase a TV to watch the World Cup on a big screen, but this experience with Flipkart has caused me unbearable stress. Please help,” the user pleaded.
In response to the post, Flipkart issued an apology, stating: “Our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience you’ve experienced with your return request. We are committed to resolving this for you. Please send us a direct message with your order details to maintain confidentiality.”
Since it was shared, the post has garnered over 716,000 views on the micro-blogging platform.
