Former US President Trump claims both nations reached out simultaneously seeking peace

New Delhi: June 25, 2025
In the wake of ongoing hostilities between Israel and Iran, former U.S. President Donald Trump has renewed his plea for Israel and Iran to maintain the ceasefire. Taking to his platform Truth Social, Trump stated: “The ceasefire is now in place. Please do not break it.”

Trump Role as Self-Proclaimed Peace Broker

Trump claimed that both Israeli and Iranian representatives reached out to him “almost simultaneously” to express a desire for peace. Emphasizing the global impact, he wrote:

“The real winners here are the Middle East and the world. Israel and Iran have bright futures, but if they stray from faith and truth, they will suffer great loss. May God bless both nations.”

Announcement of Temporary Ceasefire
According to Trump, a formal ceasefire agreement was reached and would take effect after final military operations. He said the ceasefire would last for 12 hours initially, after which the conflict could be considered concluded if all parties complied.

Mixed Signals from Both Sides
Despite Trump’s declaration, official clarity remains elusive:

According to Israeli officials, it was Trump who made the ceasefire declaration. However, they noted that its continuation depends on full cooperation from all involved.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied the existence of any formal ceasefire agreement, casting doubt on Trump’s claims.

Airspace Reopens in Israel
In a hopeful development, Israel’s Airport Authority confirmed that airspace—previously closed due to Iranian missile attacks—has been reopened to commercial flights, signaling a potential de-escalation in tensions.

Netanyahu Government Silent
As of now, the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not issued an official statement regarding the ceasefire or Trump’s involvement.

Global Community Calls for Stability
Amid the uncertain ceasefire, international leaders and organizations continue to call for restraint from both sides, urging a sustained halt to hostilities and a focus on long-term diplomatic solutions.
