New Delhi: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has voiced strong criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This meeting coincided with a tragic event in Ukraine where a Russian missile struck a children’s hospital, resulting in the deaths of at least 37 individuals.
Zelenskyy expressed profound disappointment, stating, “It is a significant setback for peace efforts to witness the leader of the world’s largest democracy embrace the individual responsible for such atrocities on a day like this.”
PM Modi was in Russia for the 22nd Annual Summit.
In a post on social media, Zelenskyy detailed the attack: “Today in Ukraine, 37 people lost their lives, including three children, and 170 were injured, with 13 of them being children, due to a Russian missile strike. The missile hit Ukraine’s largest children’s hospital, targeting young cancer patients. Many remain trapped under the debris. Seeing the leader of the world’s largest democracy embrace the world’s most notorious criminal in Moscow on such a day is profoundly disappointing and a severe blow to ongoing peace efforts.”
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Moscow, from July 8 to 9, is at the invitation of President Putin for the India-Russia Annual Summit.
