Bapu Bazaar draws huge crowds for a one-of-a-kind celebration of Ganesh
The annual Ganesh festival lit up Udaipur once again, with devotees flocking to Bapu Bazaar to witness the renowned Udaipur Cha Raja. The Shri Swastik Vinayak Ganpati Mandal, which has been organizing this celebration for nearly 25 years, made this year’s festival extra special.
The idol of Lord Ganesha was adorned in an extraordinary attire made entirely of currency notes worth ₹1.51 crore. Thousands of visitors came to the pandal to seek blessings and admire the unique display.
A Growing Tradition
The mandal has been celebrating the Ganesh festival for 24 years, and for the past eight years, they have decorated the idol with currency notes. What started as an offering of ₹5.55 lakh gradually increased over the years, reaching ₹7.77 lakh, ₹11.11 lakh, and this year, a staggering ₹1.51 crore.
Expert Craftsmanship and Security
The stunning outfit was crafted using ₹50, ₹100, ₹200, and ₹500 notes. A dedicated team of eight artisans from Mumbai spent five days meticulously putting together the intricate design, with additional embellishments around the idol also fashioned from currency notes.
To ensure everything ran smoothly, the mandal enlisted 10 bouncers alongside police personnel. The notes were generously donated by 30 members, and the funds will be returned to them once the festival wraps up.
A Festival of Devotion and Creativity
This breathtaking display became the highlight of Udaipur’s Ganesh festival, attracting long lines of devotees eager to admire the artistry. The organizers beamed with pride as they upheld a tradition that beautifully merges devotion, artistic talent, and community spirit.
