Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, responded to the controversy surrounding Prajwal Revanna’s alleged sex tape and targeted the Congress party for the timing of its release. Shah stated that the BJP has a clear stance regarding Prajwal Revanna, the MP from Hassan in Karnataka and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. He criticized the lack of action by the ruling Congress in Karnataka, asserting that such behavior cannot be tolerated.
Speaking in Guwahati, Shah questioned the timing of the leak of the alleged explicit videos involving Prajwal Revanna. The videos purportedly showed him engaging in sexual acts with multiple women, including government employees, and circulated in the Hassan district. Following this, the Karnataka State Commission for Women urged the chief minister to establish a special investigation team. The issue gained attention after voting took place in the constituency on April 26.
Shah reiterated the BJP’s support for investigating the matter and mentioned that their coalition partner JD(S) also intends to take action. He criticized the Congress for allegedly spreading fake videos of BJP leaders out of frustration and condemned such tactics in politics.
Regarding the allegations against Prajwal, Shah emphasized the seriousness of the matter and questioned why the Congress-led government in Karnataka had not taken action despite being in power. He urged Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to address the issue with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.
Prajwal Revanna denied the allegations, calling them “doctored,” and the alleged videos emerged a day after the polls in his constituency. Prajwal, who is part of the NDA alliance and the JD(S), is set to face an inquiry, with the JD(S) holding a core committee meeting to discuss the situation.
Prajwal, also the nephew of JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy, reportedly left the country for Germany. The police have filed a case of sexual harassment and stalking against him, and the Karnataka government has formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate the matter, with plans to ask Prajwal to return to India.
